Fireweed

Epilobium augustifolium

Floral emblem of the Yukon Territory (NW Canada)

The dark honey produced from fireweed
is of superior quality, and if possible, many
beekeepers like to place their apiaries near
these flowers. Native people would split young stalks
of this plant and scoop out the sweet pith,
and the French Voyageurs called it l'herbe fret,
taking it with them to use as greens.
